Solar Incentives

This section of the website is dedicated to providing you with up to date solar incentive information.

Federal Solar and Renewable Incentives
Federal tax credits have been extended through 2017! The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 contains renewable energy legislation which is great news for our solar customers. The 30% commercial solar investment tax credit has been extended through 2017, and now is also extended to residential installations.  Under this new legislation the previous $2,000 cap for residential solar installations is eliminated.  This means that starting January 1, 2009 the purchase of a residential solar electric system will make you eligible for a tax credit equal to 30% of the cost of your solar system, including installation, after other rebates.

Utility Solar Incentives
Xcel provides special incentives through its Solar Rewards Program for small and medium size systems including both residential and commercial.   Systems below 10kW receive a total of $3.50 per Watt following installation as part of entering into a 20 year Agreement with Xcel.  Systems from 10kW to 100kW receive a $2.00 upfront Rebate payment and an ongoing monthly Renewable Energy Credit (REC) payment of $0.115 per kWh produced by the system - even for the energy consumed by the residence or commercial building.  Between 100mW and 500mW is a new designation to receive a $200,000 Rebate payment (highest payment currently permitted) plus $0125 per kWh for 20 years. To learn more about the Xcel Solar Reward Rebates and REC payments for Solar Power Systems in Colorado, call us for all of the details or visit this link.

Colorado Solar Incentives
Currently, Colorado has over 40 financial incentives for solar statewide, and more than 10 utility companies who offer their customers some sort of financial incentive for grid-tie applications.   Xcel currently offers a rebate program of up to $3.50/ W for a typical system between .5Kw and 10Kw.     The $3.50 is comprised of a $2.00 per Watt standard rebate plus a $1.50 Renewable Energy Credit (REC) fee.   For a detailed list of available incentives in Colorado click here.

Please note that Xcel announced in October of 2009 a timetable to reduce the REC Fee fee from the then $1.50 (Maximum $15,000 benefit) to $0.01 or $100 of benefit.   Click here for more details.
